On the rocky island of Georgetown, Maine is where Georgetown Pottery began in 1972. The pottery was first thrown in a one room log cabin, which is now used as a showroom. The original kiln shed has been renovated and turned into a second showroom. Drive there and you'll get a true feeling for Maine and what it's really all about. The small fishing village of Georgetown is home to roughly 1000 permanent residents and the vacation spot for thousands more in the summer months. Many of Georgetown Pottery's patterns and designs stem from their love of these surroundings. Don't be surprised if you're greeted at your car by the shop dog Yeti or find that some pottery dust has found a new home on your shirt by the time you leave. They're more than happy to give customers a tour around the studio. Customers are encouraged to stay a while and watch a few pots being thrown on the wheel or someone painting some lupines on a lamp and if your lucky hop in the kiln room while it's being fired. Georgetown Pottery takes great pride in the pieces they create, but try to have fun at the same time! Visit The Georgetown Pottery Gallery |
