· Michael Michaud's Sand Dollar Jewelry is cast from molds made directly from sand dollar skeletons. Sand dollars are echinoids and thus possess a rigid skeleton displaying a radial symmetry design. Unlike other urchins, the bodies of sand dollars also display secondary front-to-back bilateral symmetry. The name sand dollar is derived from the appearance of the urchins after being washed ashore. The sand dollar's test, or skeleton, is bleached white by sunlight and often resembles a large silver coin, such as the old American Silver Dollar. Michael Michaud's Silver Seasons Jewelry is handcrafted in his New York city studio.
